For more than 25 years, Tom Kenny has been the unmistakable voice behind SpongeBob SquarePants, helping turn the optimistic fry cook into one of animation’s most beloved characters. Now, the veteran voice actor is celebrating another milestone in SpongeBob’s legacy with the character’s return to the LEGO lineup.
Speaking about the newly announced LEGO SpongeBob SquarePants sets, Kenny shared his excitement as both the voice of SpongeBob and a lifelong LEGO fan. His enthusiasm reflected not only his connection to the animated series but also his appreciation for seeing two iconic brands come together in a way that resonates with fans of all ages.
The collaboration marks the return of SpongeBob-themed LEGO sets after a lengthy absence, giving longtime collectors and younger fans a new opportunity to recreate Bikini Bottom in brick form.
A Lifelong LEGO Fan Welcomes SpongeBob’s Return
Tom Kenny’s excitement over the new sets comes from a place of genuine enthusiasm.
In discussing the collaboration, Kenny explained that he has loved LEGO since childhood, making SpongeBob’s return to the brick-building world especially meaningful. Watching a character he has voiced since 1999 become part of another generation’s LEGO collection is something he described with obvious affection.
For Kenny, the appeal extends beyond simply lending his voice to an animated character. Like many longtime fans, he appreciates the creativity that LEGO encourages, allowing builders to bring familiar worlds to life through imagination and design.
That personal connection helped make his reaction feel authentic rather than promotional. Instead of viewing the sets as just another licensed product, Kenny spoke as someone excited to see two things he has loved for decades come together.
His comments also highlighted how closely he remains connected to SpongeBob after more than two decades in the role. Whether recording new episodes, participating in anniversary celebrations, or supporting special projects, Kenny continues to embrace the character with the same enthusiasm that has defined the series from the beginning.
SpongeBob Returns to the LEGO World
The newly announced sets bring several familiar locations from Bikini Bottom into LEGO form, allowing fans to build environments inspired by the long-running Nickelodeon series.
For many collectors, the announcement represents something they have been hoping to see for years. Earlier SpongeBob LEGO sets developed a loyal following after leaving store shelves, and demand for the theme has remained strong among both LEGO enthusiasts and animation fans.
The new collection gives longtime followers another chance to celebrate the series while introducing SpongeBob to younger builders discovering the character for the first time.
The collaboration also reflects SpongeBob SquarePants’ remarkable longevity. More than a quarter-century after its television debut, the franchise continues expanding through new episodes, films, games, merchandise, and collectibles that reach audiences across multiple generations.
More Than Merchandise
Although licensed products are common for successful animated franchises, SpongeBob’s continued popularity says something larger about the character’s cultural impact.
Much of that success has been built on the consistency of Tom Kenny’s performance. Across hundreds of television episodes, feature films, specials, and video games, his energetic portrayal has remained one of the defining elements of the franchise.
That consistency allows fans to reconnect with SpongeBob regardless of the format. Whether watching a new episode, playing a video game, or now assembling a LEGO set inspired by Bikini Bottom, audiences still hear the same familiar voice that introduced the character in 1999.
It is one of the reasons SpongeBob has remained relevant across generations. Children continue discovering the series while adults who grew up with the show enjoy sharing it with their own families.
A Character That Continues to Inspire Creativity
Tom Kenny’s reaction to SpongeBob’s LEGO return reflects more than excitement over a new collectible.
It demonstrates how enduring characters continue finding new ways to connect with audiences long after their television debut. LEGO encourages creativity through building, while SpongeBob has inspired imagination through storytelling for more than 25 years. Together, the two brands celebrate the kind of playful creativity that has always been at the heart of the series.
For voice acting fans, the announcement is also another reminder of Kenny’s lasting contribution to animation. His performance has remained one of the industry’s most recognizable voices, helping SpongeBob evolve from a popular cartoon into a global entertainment icon.
As the new LEGO sets arrive, fans will once again have the opportunity to visit Bikini Bottom in a completely different way. Judging by Tom Kenny’s reaction, few people are happier to see that happen than the actor who has given SpongeBob his unmistakable voice for more than two decades.
