Analesa Fisher Reveals How a Car Audition Landed Their Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Role

October 20, 2026 by Voice Actors News Staff

Voice actor Analesa Fisher has revealed the unusual circumstances behind landing the role of Omi in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, including an unexpected audition recorded inside their mother’s car in a Portland parking garage. The actor, who had initially auditioned for another character, secured the role despite having limited recording equipment and little time to prepare.

Fisher voices Omi, a nomadic survivor whose relationship with D plays an important role in the second season’s story. The new ten-episode anime premiered on Netflix on October 20, 2026, introducing a different group of characters within the dangerous world of Night City.

In recent interviews, Fisher discussed their unconventional casting experience, the challenges of performing in a lower vocal register, and the emotional approach they developed for Omi. Their experience also highlights the demands of anime dubbing, where performers must balance characterization, emotional expression, and precise synchronization with existing animation.

An Unexpected Audition Inside a Portland Parking Garage

Fisher’s journey into Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 began with an unsuccessful audition for Yupi, a character they were particularly interested in portraying. Although they did not secure that part, another opportunity emerged shortly afterward while they were visiting family in Portland, Oregon.

During the visit, Fisher received a message from their friend Valeria Rodriguez, who voices Roman in the series. Rodriguez was attending a recording session when they contacted Fisher and arranged a conversation with recording director Wendee Lee. Lee wanted Fisher to audition for another character, Omi, and asked whether they could submit a recording as quickly as possible.

The request presented an immediate logistical problem. Fisher was away from their usual recording setup in Los Angeles and had brought only a travel microphone. Their mother’s home also lacked a suitable quiet space for recording, forcing them to improvise an alternative location.

Fisher eventually settled on their mother’s car in a parking garage, placing a laptop on the dashboard and connecting their portable recording equipment. With limited preparation and an unfamiliar character to interpret, they recorded the audition under circumstances considerably different from a professional studio session.

The character also required a deeper voice than Fisher typically performs. Although the vocal reference initially created uncertainty, the audition material included emotionally demanding scenes that allowed Fisher to connect with Omi’s personality. They concentrated on the character’s emotional circumstances while attempting to maintain the lower vocal delivery.

After submitting the recording, Fisher offered to repeat the audition once they returned to Los Angeles. However, several days later, Lee contacted them about their availability, indicating that the production wanted to move forward with the casting.

The unexpected development was especially meaningful because Fisher was already a fan of the original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. They had watched the first season multiple times and were enthusiastic about the possibility of joining its successor, even after their initial auditions had been unsuccessful.

Finding Omi’s Deeper Voice and Emotional Strength

Securing the role was only the beginning of Fisher’s challenges. Omi required a lower vocal register than the actor normally uses, creating difficulties during recording sessions, particularly when the character experienced intense emotions.

Fisher explained that their natural speaking and performance voices tend to occupy a higher range. When delivering emotionally charged dialogue, they sometimes found themselves returning to that familiar register without realizing it.

Recording director Wendee Lee helped maintain consistency by reminding Fisher to lower their voice after particularly emotional takes. The process required the actor to remain connected to Omi’s feelings while also controlling the technical aspects of the performance.

Rather than simply making Omi sound deeper, Fisher needed to establish where the character’s confidence and resilience existed within her voice. The production team wanted a believable young person rather than an exaggerated interpretation of a powerful anime heroine.

That distinction influenced the final performance. Fisher incorporated natural variations in pitch and vocal texture, allowing Omi’s voice to change subtly depending on whether she was angry, distressed, or attempting to remain composed.

Another challenge came from the character’s dialogue. Fisher described Omi’s manner of speaking as almost Shakespearean, reflecting her background as a nomad who has lived apart from the culture of Night City.

Unlike many characters in the Cyberpunk universe, Omi does not regularly use the slang associated with the city’s inhabitants. Her speech is more formal and deliberate, distinguishing her from characters whose language reflects the influence of Night City’s street culture.

For the English-language performance, this created additional complications. Fisher had to deliver longer, more formal phrases while matching the mouth movements of the existing animation. Maintaining natural speech within those timing restrictions required careful adjustments during recording.

The result is a character whose vocal identity reflects both her upbringing and her emotional experiences. Omi’s restrained delivery contrasts with the louder personalities and chaotic environment surrounding her, providing a different perspective on life in the Cyberpunk universe.

Omi’s Relationship With D Shapes the Performance

Omi’s relationship with D is central to Fisher’s understanding of the character. Both have experienced significant hardship, but their responses to those experiences differ considerably.

D pursues a destructive path driven by revenge, while Omi is primarily concerned with survival and continuing her life. Fisher described Omi as someone who recognizes the pain of losing loved ones but does not believe that pursuing revenge offers a meaningful way forward.

That outlook became an important foundation for the performance. Rather than portraying Omi as emotionally detached, Fisher approached her as a person who has experienced suffering but remains determined to find a reason to continue living.

The character’s resilience is expressed through relatively restrained dialogue and emotional reactions. Fisher wanted Omi’s strength to feel authentic, rather than relying entirely on a commanding or intimidating vocal performance.

The contrast between Omi and D also reflects the broader themes of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, which explores family, obsession, personal identity, and the consequences of living within Night City’s violent environment.

Fisher’s interpretation emphasizes how two characters can respond differently to similar experiences. Omi’s perspective introduces an alternative to the revenge-driven motivations that shape much of the surrounding story.

The actor also credited the production’s directors with helping establish the character’s emotional consistency. With little time between casting and recording, Fisher relied on their familiarity with the original anime and guidance from the creative team to understand how Omi fit into the new narrative.

Analesa Fisher’s Career Across Anime, Games and Television

Although Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 represents a significant addition to Fisher’s animation career, the actor has already worked across video games, animated television, and live-action productions.

Their voice acting credits include Honkai: Star Rail, Cookie Run: Kingdom, and Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. In Miraculous, Fisher voices Aglaé and Sublime, joining a long-running animated franchise with an established international audience.

Fisher has also portrayed Supergirl in the video game DC: Dark Legion. In a separate interview, they explained that the role initially seemed outside their usual casting range. Rather than adopting a conventional interpretation of the superhero, they were encouraged by the director to bring more of their own personality to the character.

The resulting performance incorporated a sharper, more outspoken delivery, demonstrating how casting directors can seek unexpected interpretations of familiar characters.

Their live-action credits include Netflix’s Metal Lords and the independent film Saving Buddy Charles. Fisher also appears in Rise and Shine, a coming-of-age film released in October 2026.

Fisher began working in voiceover while growing up in Portland, where local commercial and radio opportunities provided an entry into professional acting. They pursued on-camera and voiceover work simultaneously, an approach that has continued throughout their career.

In discussing the relationship between the two forms of acting, Fisher explained that they approach both with a similar emphasis on character and emotional authenticity. Although recording dialogue for animation involves different technical requirements from performing on camera, the underlying goal remains creating a believable character.

That philosophy is particularly evident in their work as Omi. The performance required a combination of vocal control, emotional restraint, and an understanding of the character’s place within the story.

From an improvised audition inside a parked car to recording emotionally demanding scenes under Wendee Lee’s direction, Fisher’s experience on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 demonstrates the unpredictable nature of voice acting opportunities. Their portrayal of Omi adds another character to an expanding career that continues to span anime, video games, and live-action entertainment.
