Minions & Monsters arrived in theaters on July 1 after making its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 21. The latest animated adventure expanded the long-running franchise with a fresh story, new characters, and one of its most diverse voice casts to date.
The film also continued the franchise’s commercial success. By mid-July, Minions & Monsters had earned more than $400 million worldwide, making it one of the summer’s biggest animated releases. Critics responded positively as well, with the film earning strong reviews for its humor, animation, and performances. Review aggregators placed it among the better-reviewed entries in the franchise, while audiences praised its family-friendly comedy and energetic ensemble cast.
Much of that success can be credited to a voice cast that blends experienced animation veterans with award-winning actors and comedians. From longtime franchise regulars to newcomers making memorable animated appearances, the performances help give each character a distinct personality.
Here’s a closer look at the voices behind Minions & Monsters.
Pierre Coffin Continues as the Minions
No performer is more closely connected to the franchise than Pierre Coffin.
As co-creator of the Minions, Coffin has voiced the mischievous yellow characters since their debut in Despicable Me. Rather than assigning individual actors to each Minion, he performs hundreds of unique vocal variations, creating the playful language and personalities that have become one of the franchise’s trademarks.
His work goes far beyond simple gibberish. Through subtle differences in pitch, timing, and delivery, Coffin gives individual Minions recognizable personalities despite their limited vocabulary. It remains one of animation’s most unique vocal performances and continues to be central to the franchise’s identity.
Trey Parker Brings His Signature Comedy
Trey Parker joins the cast with the sharp comedic instincts that have defined much of his career.
Best known as the co-creator and voice of South Park, Parker has spent decades creating dozens of memorable animated characters. His experience balancing satire, absurd comedy, and expressive vocal performances makes him a natural fit for the film’s energetic tone.
Although audiences know Parker primarily for television animation, his contribution here demonstrates how adaptable his voice acting remains across different styles of animated storytelling.
Zoey Deutch Adds Energy to the Cast
Zoey Deutch continues expanding her animation résumé with one of the film’s major roles.
Known for performances in films such as Zombieland: Double Tap, Not Okay, and Juror #2, Deutch brings warmth and quick comedic timing to her animated character.
While much of her career has focused on live-action performances, her expressive vocal delivery translates naturally to animation, helping create a character that feels both relatable and entertaining.
Jesse Eisenberg Delivers Another Memorable Animated Performance
Jesse Eisenberg has steadily built an impressive list of animated credits alongside his live-action work.
Having previously voiced Blu in the Rio films, Eisenberg once again demonstrates his ability to bring intelligence, humor, and emotional nuance to animated characters.
His performance complements the ensemble while adding another familiar voice that audiences immediately recognize.
Allison Janney and Jeff Bridges Add Veteran Presence
Academy Award winner Allison Janney brings her unmistakable voice and commanding screen presence into animation once again.
Known for balancing dramatic performances with sharp comedy, Janney gives her character authority while maintaining the playful spirit expected from the franchise.
Jeff Bridges similarly contributes decades of acting experience. His relaxed, instantly recognizable delivery gives his character a natural charisma, proving once again why veteran dramatic actors often transition so effectively into voice acting.
Christoph Waltz Brings Sophistication to Animation
Christoph Waltz has built a career portraying intelligent, unpredictable characters, and those qualities translate naturally into voice performance.
His distinctive vocal style allows him to command attention without relying on exaggerated delivery, making him an ideal addition to an animated ensemble that balances comedy with adventure.
Waltz’s performance adds another layer of personality to a cast already filled with experienced performers.
Bobby Moynihan and Phil LaMarr Strengthen the Ensemble
Comedy veteran Bobby Moynihan contributes the energetic delivery that has made him a favorite across television animation.
Joining him is Phil LaMarr, one of the most respected and authentic animation voice actors in the industry. With an extensive résumé that includes Samurai Jack, Justice League, Futurama, Static Shock, and countless video games, LaMarr has built his reputation through decades of dedicated voice performance, demonstrating why he remains one of animation’s most versatile and trusted talents.
Although supporting roles often receive less attention than the leads, experienced voice actors like LaMarr frequently help establish the rhythm and consistency that elevate an entire production.
An Ensemble Filled With Voice Acting Talent
Beyond the headline names, Minions & Monsters features an impressive supporting cast that includes several respected voice performers.
Carlos Alazraqui, Eric Bauza, Ashly Burch, JP Karliak, John Kassir, Rachel Butera, Arif S. Kinchen, Barbara Eve Harris, Aaron Hendry, and Camden Brooks all contribute to the film’s expansive world.
Many of these performers have built careers voicing dozens, and sometimes hundreds, of animated characters across television, film, and video games. Their experience allows even smaller roles to feel distinctive, giving the film a consistently polished vocal performance from beginning to end.
For voice acting fans, their inclusion reflects a growing trend in major animated productions. Studios increasingly combine Hollywood stars with veteran voice actors, allowing each group to contribute its own strengths while creating a richer overall cast.
Why the Voice Cast Works So Well
One reason Minions & Monsters succeeds is the balance between recognizable celebrities and dedicated voice acting professionals.
The live-action stars bring name recognition and broad audience appeal, while experienced voice actors ensure every scene maintains the expressive energy animation demands.
That combination has become increasingly common across major animated releases, but it works particularly well here because each performer feels suited to their role rather than simply serving as celebrity casting.
Pierre Coffin continues providing continuity for longtime fans, while newcomers help keep the franchise feeling fresh.
Combined with vibrant animation, fast-paced comedy, and strong character performances, the cast has helped Minions & Monsters become both a commercial success and one of the better-reviewed entries in the franchise.
As the film continues its theatrical run, audiences are discovering that its biggest strength isn’t simply the return of familiar characters. It’s the talented group of performers behind them, whose voices bring humor, personality, and heart to every scene. For animation fans, Minions & Monsters serves as another reminder that memorable voice acting remains one of the foundations of great animated storytelling.
